The first few weeks of quitting smokeless tobacco is the biggest challenge, so here are some recommendations to help you get through them successfully. First of all, congratulations to you, and give yourself a pat on the back. Now it’s time to get all of your ducks in a row, and plan ahead.

Make a list of the activities you do when you chew tobacco. It’s time to change these habits up. Decide on an activity that you will do instead of reaching for the can of dip. This can be almost anything such as having a snack of fresh fruit or vegetables, making a to-do list, or anything that distracts you from the craving. Keep yourself busy, and keep that shit outta yer mouff.

Plan to get some projects done that have been on hold. For the first few weeks, you will want to keep yourself busy and distracted. Throwing yourself into productive projects will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something in addition to keeping your mind off of tobacco. This can be a huge help. Even though it feels like your not getting anything done, and everything frustrates you, keep busy!

Make an agreement with one of the member of your forum that you will call them if you think you may start chewing again. Keep your end of the contract and make that call. Pre-planning for the first few weeks can help you get over the toughest part of quitting by giving you a contingency plan.
